Frequently asked questions! If you have some questions you would like answered please let us know! We are sometimes confused about many things and just afraid to ask what people mean. Usually concerning such what we consider little things that we just do not ask. Remember no thing is too little to ask and no question is stupid! Q.How do I contact the Medicare government offices if I think there is some error or fraud or abuse of the system? A. call 1-800-8477 Mon-Fri 9am-9pm EST.
Q. How do I chose a Doctor? A. If you are using an HMO or insurance with a list of doctors, You should call and see first if they are accepting new patients. Then make an appt to just go and meet them before turning your care over to them. You can check with the AMA for any charges they may have against them. If on Medicare, similar ways to choose the Dr. are used. Many Drs. often are filled for the moment. Another good rule of thumb is if the Dr is recommended by someone you know well and trust. If the situation is that you do not have a Dr. and go to the emergency room at a hospital, you will be given the Dr who is on call. This is not all bad most times, but it is much better for you and your family if you already know your Dr.
Q. I can get around ok but find it is tiring and difficult to go shopping, especially at the malls where I have to walk so far....How do I get those disabled license plates or that plastic thing you put in the window to use the handicapped parking? A. Go to your Dr. and have him give you a prescription for it. Take it to your license plate office and you will receive one. There is a small extra charge for the plastic placard, but the license plate is just the normal cost of licensing your car.
Q. I find it hard to get up out of my chair...is there anything I can do? A. Yes Medicare will help on the expense for an elevator chair as long as your Dr. orders it. This is like a lounge chair but the whole seat and back lift you to a standing position.
