Acrylic
Cookbook Stand
Basic Work
techniques for making small useful and great looking things from bending and
cutting Acrylic plastic similar to Plexiglas. This will take a bit to get
started but once the first part is done you will be able to do many more
projects with the same equipment.
What will be
needed to get started on the strip heater to use for bending the acrylic:
To Assemble:
(When a piece of acrylic is placed on the rests there should be a gap of ¼ “
between the bar and the underside of the acrylic sheet to prevent the acrylic
touching the bar during heating)
If the acrylic sheet is butted up against these
nails during heating, this will ensure the bedn will be at right angles to the
edge of the acrylic.
Please see the picture it will help you understand the words
Cookbook
Stand
This
cookbook stand will protect your cookbooks from grease and food stains while
making it easier to follow the directions wile you are cooking. It is made
by cutting a rectangle of acrylic sheet and making three bends across the width
of the rectangle of the sheet and making three bends across the width of the
rectangle two of the 90 degrees the other one 30 degrees. The stand
is 9 1/4 in high.

You will
need:
Bending:
The
acrylic is now ready to be heated and bent into the required shape. To
obtain the two bends of 90 degrees the heated acrylic will be held against a
carpenters square in a vice The bend of 30 degrees is judged by the
eye and the anlge can vary as long as the book stand will actually stand up.

Egg
Rack
The second project
is the Egg stand. this involves cutting out a rectangle of acrylic, drilling
eight holes to take eggs, and then bending along two lines to make legs for the
rack.

You will need:

Directions:
Cutting the holes:
An electric drill is essential for this
Friction
of the cutting tool against the acrylic will generate heat, and may damage the
acrylic by melting it if you are not careful. To avoid this happening
occasionally draw back the tool so that it can cool in the air.
Drill
each hole in the same way.
FINISHING:
The
inside of the drill holes must be smoothed and polished.
Bending the legs:
This
really is fun if you get through the making of the strip heater and does not
take a long time after that. Enjoy !!
